Applying science to

Assess the environmental impact of production and consumption of products

Do you think about the origins of a product we come across? How about its end of life? Driven by consumer and stakeholder interest, companies of all sizes are making commitments towards sustainability. Sustainable and responsible production and consumption are at the heart of sustainable development for goods and services. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), a science-based method, is applied for the assessment of the environmental impact of production and consumption of products.

Our Life Cycle Assessment Work

LCA helps identify and quantify processes that have most impacts to the environment during production, supply chain, consumption, and end-of-life of products. The data-informed indicators generated from an LCA identify phases of a product cycle where improvements can be objectively measured and targeted to foster a more sustainable future for the product in balancing business and social value.

Whether it is an ingredient in a consumer product, or agricultural activities for a food product, Waterborne’s team of diverse technical expertise can step in and assess the impacts of production and consumption of a product or material through parts or entirety of its life cycle. We use databases and models to generate data that help understand where impacts occur because of the materials used throughout the value chain, from cradle to grave. The indicators from an LCA could potentially influence product design, manufacturing, purchasing, labeling decisions, and in meeting sustainability commitments.
